My sketchbook from January of 2016 is especially close to my heart, since it was not only incredibly comfortable to draw in, but also it features a wide range of styles. It captures the time when I was shifting from the very precise mandalas to a lighter, more sketchy style of drawing.
This book was my second attempt at coptic stitch binding. I clearly remember waxing my own thread, cutting the paper to the exact size, and folding them into signatures individually. The pages are 10,5 cm by 10,5 large (the cover is 11 cm by 12 cm), which is quite small, hence at that time I wasn't comfortable with drawing at anything larger than A6 size. Originally the 1:1 ratio was intended to serve as a better canvas for mandalas, although they ended up only filling a fraction of the book.
The sheets are light, 90 g/m2 paper with felt marking, which is very good for pencil drawings and even watercolours.
Interestingly, the book still carries the characteristics of an art journal, unlike most of my recent sketchbooks. A lot of the pages are a reaction, a response to the events that were happening around me.
I hope you enjoy it, as much as I enjoyed creating it.
