In my playground I tried to create many possibilities to the physical play. There is a main construction that allows climbing outside to get inside. Because of safety third level is glazed and holes (entrances) are on a first and second level. Children can sit inside, there is also possibility of symbolic play. Other elements are: similar construction structure for climbing (triangles), two sorts of swings, slide and more organic sitting surfaces. There are also two passages connecting the third floor with ground level and second level with third. I hoped to achieve also visually interesting space that makes children explore it. Climbing construction is inspired by structures of ants. Whole space is a combination of organic and simple geometric forms. The dimesions of climbing structure elements pass to size of feet and hands of a child between 5-11 years of age. I chose this age range (not forgetting about the danger of too broad range) because I wanted to create a place that potencially a lot of kids could use and at the same time spend good time together. Other important element is a modular furniture for sitting and hiding things (storage), also combining
all parts together and arranging (3 possibilities). I wanted to choose quite optimal dimensions – 30 cm height and 39 cm depth. There are four soft elements (kind of poufs), four boxes (function of storage) from plexiglass and plywood elements connecting all parts. Colors of both playground and furniture are bright but combined with white and gray shades at the same time. I think that this contrast is essential in creating aesthetic design. I tried to design enough complicated playground elements so that novelty factor would be maintained for a long time. Furniture should be a kind of portlable element and playground itself should make an exploratoration possible, so allow children to discover – touch, move, run, daydream etc.
