Bloom - Inspiration and Progress Timeline

Working with the inspiration of Native American clothing, as per the theme of the class, I started with my inspiration with a child's dress from the Nez Perce people, dating back to the early 1900s. I was inspired by the way that manufactured textiles from trade with the europeans that had been taking land from them were now incorporated into their clothing, and I found a special interest in the necklines and shawls of the dress. 
First sketch influenced by the Nez Perce dress, focussing on the pleated waste and circular neck:
First drape: In attempt to give it more volume, the diagonal gathering was added:
First and Second fittings, where I was experimenting with the different treatments of the circular neckline, adding layers and height:
