COLLECTIONS

For this brief I was asked to pick a collection of objects, to create a narrative about; in a small book. I decided to use my clothes label collection as I had purposely saved over 100 over the space of one year purely because I liked the way they looked and felt in regard to paper stock (definitely the designer in me). However as I began researching into branding I noticed that it is a piece of design that is almost completely overlooked in regard to consumerism. It is designed to degrade from the outset and whilst there are some clothes labels that are aesthetically unimpressive and boring, even the superb label designs out there, are barely noticed, simply torn off and thrown in the bin.

With this book, I wanted to visually show the journey of the label from leaving the shop (the hub of the brand), to when the retail experience is forgotten about when entering the home (symbolised by the use of polaroid) and finally to when it is torn off the item of clothing and discarded. For the front and back cover of the book, I wanted to make a clear reference to the look of a label without having to say the word.
