Masterplan openbare ruimte centrum Apeldoorn

Masterplan public space citycenter
Concept public space policy, municipality of Apeldoorn, 2010 - 2011
The new public space masterplan for the city centre of Apeldoorn provides the basis for the elaboration of different rehabilitation projects in the coming years. It provides a conceptual framework and focus for the way the public space will be designed as well as programmed.

The basis for this approach was laid out in an extensive ‘public space public life’ study by the Danish office of Gehl Architects. The results of this analysis has been transformed in the masterplan into practical outlines for all aspects concerning public space (programming, facades, pavement, green, lighting, furniture et cetera).

Reducing the fragmentation and upgrading of the historical lines to 'life lines in the city ' are the main challenges for the period until 2020. The renewal of the Cultuurplein and Caterplein (see portfolio projects) are the first results of this new approach where software (programming and use) and hardware (architectural design) are more balanced and intertwined then in the recent past.
