In this project we were given a social cause and are asked to design shoes for a company we are inspired by. My cause is ocean pollution, and I chose Adidas as by brand. The shoe design is inspired by current sneaker trends and partly by ocean currents. It features a buckle instead of shoe laces. The color ways and textures are inspired by ocean waves and various aquatic animals.
I also explored production methods in order to create a sustainable model that minimizes pollution and even help reduce pollution in the ocean.
The advertisement below I've created shows the shoe in a special edition color way. The shoe is coated in two layers of paint, the top layer resembling the ocean surface, and the bottom layer resembles floating trash in the ocean. As the wearer slowly wears out the shoe, part of the top layer will rub away which alters the appearance of the shoe.
The poster below is intended to be a billboard advertisement.
