M.L.K.Jr. Mural - Dossin Elementary - Detroit

Dossin Elementary-Middle School is a growing school in Schoolcraft, Detroit.

I was commissioned for this project by Principal Kurtis Brown, the new principal at the school turning things around for the better.

Restoring communications,
fixing structural problems within the facility,
and maintaining curriculum operations according to standards.

As the new principal of Dossin School, Principal Brown wanted to set the tone and intention for not only his new beggings, but for the kids and staff who needed a vision of progress. The school teaches predominantly African-American students, the idea of having a strong Civil Rights leader as the front mantle piece/facade at the entrance of the school was pivotal.

So when we brainstormed his vision, we knew we had to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself, with this quote.

""The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and think critically. intellgence plus character, that is the goal of true education."  -M.L.K. Jr.

All of the school staff were happy and became proud of their school facade!

After this big Success we are now planning for entires hallways
filled with murals with as many necessary
Civil rights workers and Heroes against Adversity that we can fit.

Mission complete.
