When first approached to create a website for a local drama academy I was taken aback by the enthusiasm of the owner. She was very passionate about her job and was determined to grow her business. This passion was something I felt had to be carried to the website and much care and attention was given to choosing all aspects of the design.
After creating an initial draft it was clear that the design and the target audience didn't match. A simple black background and a few golden stars was not going to keep kids interested or on the webpage. I decided that a makeover worthy of Hollywood was needed. The bright colours draw the eye with the falling stars creating a glitzy and glamorous appeal to the page. Social media was fully integrated on this project and remains a constant feature throughout.
Two things that were a must for the academy were the guest book and online store. With little experience in creating either of these functions I took it upon myself to 'd0 & learn' these functions. As a result the website now benefits from a fully functional guestbook that generates replies to the company email and filters against profanity. The site also features a secure PayPal shopping system that on the back end has a managed inventory.
