The Canterville Ghost

Project Brief: Design the interior of the Canterville Chase house from 'Oscar Wilde's short story 'The Canterville Ghost'. After I had read the story I started visiting some locations with suitable features for the story and time period (14th to 15th century). Below is a picture of Stokesay Castle in Shropshire. I choose this location because of the Gothic castle to the left and the long windows in the central part of the building
Once I had chosen my exterior location I started to design the interior of the house to match up with the windows and doors of the exterior. I started this process by creating a scaled down sketch model and looking at period houses to help my designs look accurate and believable.
Once I was happy with the rough scale of my sketch model I drew up the plan of designs on tracing paper to fit into the studio space. By having the plan to scale I was then able to start to draw up my elevations and sections of the set. When I had finished drawing up I used these designs to make an accurate 1:50 scale white card model of the set. I also designed a 'Canterville Family Crest' as I wanted a distinct feature to have on my three fireplaces in my design.
Finally after I had finished making my model I took some realistic camera angle pictures that I could then use to create some visuals of the set on Photoshop. This would then help the Director have a clear image of what the production would look like on camera.
