Woolf Bentley and Company

This began as a side project after being inspired by 'Face Up' Videos of BJD, or 'Ball Joint Dolls'. I wanted to create my own 'doll' or 'dolls' because my favorite part of the BJDs is how there were so easy to move and pose. The moose character, Woolf Bentley, was based off of a dream where I transformed into this creature, similar to a Wendigo, and I had fun running around and scaring people. The reason he is refereed to as 'Woolf Bentley' is because a friend of mine mentioned it. I kept the name not only to personalize the character, but to also prevent confusion.I couldn't forget the way I moved, articulate yet stilted like a doll. As for the raccoon creature, it was RISD project I made months ago and I felt that it came from the same world as Woolf Bentley so I thought to add it so I can incorporate interaction as well as movement.
This was also the first piece where I considered manipulating lighting for its warms and cools to emulate the warm soft nature of the raccoon creature and the cold distant nature of Woolf Bentley.
