Places without ramps for wheel-chair: schools, kindergartens...
The graffiti in the back says "Alone against all."
Singing contracts in front of the government building which has no ramp for the wheel-chair.
Getting into Post office...
Also some places without the ramps - movie theater, church...
Using touch pad with her chin.
Painting with her mouth...

Almost half a year ago, I got a call from the president of "Center for Independent Living" (rough translation) of Sombor (Serbia).
"Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities of Serbia has its work based on the principle known as cross-disability, meaning that it brings together people with different types of physical disability, connected by common interests.
The Center works to promote the philosophy of independent living of persons with disabilities and to create conditions for its implementation in Serbia."
(from their site)

The president, she, told me that they wanted for someone to illustrate their way of living and getting along trough the life and the city of Sombor. Someone to hang out with all the members (11 of them) and share their story with the world.

For the first time in my life someone actually asked me to do what I always wanted to do - make a photo story. Raw and true. No photoshop, no framing the subjects.

Only problem - time was short. I had only 10-15 days to finish everything... 10-15 days to finish a project which I would usually try to do over the course of at least a year.
Nevertheless, I made calls to all the members, made a schedule and did my best to do what they asked me to.
In 11 days I talked to them, listened, drank coffees, some "rakija" also, shared laughs and almost shed a tear or two. Got to know amazing people who live, almost, a normal life. Trying to cross the obstacles that life puts them, as we all do.

This is probably the project I'm proud of the most but who knows what future brings.

The name of the project is actually a phrase that Center uses to describe their work.

*all photos are mine, exept the last one. That one is property of my friend, Milan Djurdjevic, who gave me the permission to use it since I had no chance to photograph situation like that in those 11 days.
