Sensory Collages

Drawing stages originated with research into sensory stimulating surfaces used within children’s motor skill development. This concept of playfulness has continued throughout my collection, particularly through the use of colour, texture and pattern. Originally focusing on these textures in black and white, colour has been added through constructing sculptural compositions using objects that have personally evoked sensory stimulation for myself.
Colour and Material Exploration

Colour and material exploration focused heavily on creating a range of contrasting compositions of colours, surface qualities and textures. Communicating visual impact was a main focus throughout this stage.
Technical and Development Exploration

Non-traditional materials are an element within my project used to explore and communicate interesting surface qualities. This is also crucial in creating a variety of playful experiences for individuals that encourage interaction. Sampling includes a range of yarns as well as wire, plastics, sponge and feather. Hand manipulation, such as fringing and looping, are techniques that runs throughout many of my samples as their 3D structures invite interaction.
