Clear Lake is located in the Thousand Islands region of New York State and has been a huge part of my life since I was born. We are a small community, therefore there wasn't an immediate need to create a visual identity for a website or marketing purposes. However, us lake dwellers are very proud and love this place deeply, and didn't have an outlet to wear our name loud and proud.
I previously developed a Clear Lake logo in the summer of 2016, but it was definitely lacking something and wasn't as cohesive as I'd like. So I set out to create something timeless and flexible, so it could be reproduced easily and on a variety of materials.
The Common Loon is the king of the lake, and a celebrated member of our community. Summers just wouldn't be the same without the haunting call of the Common Loon echoing in our bedrooms. It's hard to imagine Clear Lake without loons, so I decided to develop a design that marries the lake and the loon where one cannot exist without the other. Thanks to the natural outline of Clear Lake, I was able to position the loon inside of it in a way that acted as well-placed negative space in the design.
I'm looking forward to creating a line of mugs and clothing for the summer of 2017!
