Khadi, A Soulful Yarn: Short Documentary

Synopsis:
This short documentary talks about the life that goes into the process of making the fabric Khadi. It celebrates the natural, eco- friendly and humane way in which the fabric is produced. It tries to capture the human involvement in the process of production and the patience and tireless energy which goes into it.

The film was an experimental attempt to capture the rhythms generated by the production of this fabric. The process looked and sounded like organic music, which could be treated as an interesting progression while cutting on the edit table.
The film was shot in and around the area of the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. Imam Manzil, a Khadi retail outlet near the ashram, employs a few workers to spin and weave the fabric they sell in their shop. One of their workers is featured in the film, working his way through the process.
Kalam Kush, a paper mill in the same vicinity, houses ambar charkhas, a superior alternative to spinning cloth as compared to the traditonal charkhas.
