A friend of mine decided to redo his study room recently. After talking to some contractors he concluded that it would become quite an expensive project.
He asked me if I could take a look at what he wanted and how we could try to make it more affordable.
Working with cheaper materials (plywood instead of hardwood and steel instead of stainless steel) was an obvious decision. I concluded that there was also a huge chunk of time going into the manufacturing of the parts and assembling the whole thing.
Therefor, I tried to simplify the design to make it so that the whole thing would exist of simple and easy to assemble parts.

After trying out different options, we opted for this design. The construction would be simple: keeping the number of parts to a minimum and a plug and play approach when it comes to assembly.
The steel parts of the study would consist of steel tubes and sheet metal.
The wood we eventually decided to use was plywood with a walnut veneer layer. This was a cheaper but it also eliminated the risk of the wood deforming, as would be the case with hard wood. The parts were coated with a mat varnish.
Once all the parts were ready, we started the assembly! As you can see, this process was rather plug and play. The biggest challenge was accounting for crooked walls etc...
