Campo dè Fiori was the stage for public executions for centuries. In 1600 the Dominican Friar, Philosopher, Mathematician and Astronomer Bruno Giordano was burnt alive. A statue stands in the middle the piazza marking the exact spot of his death.

Built of concrete and sand, it is the largest amphitheater ever built.  Construction began in 72 AD and was completed in 80 AD.  It could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators.

The outer wall is estimated to have required 3,531,467 cubic ft of travertine stone which were set without mortar; they were help together by 300 tons of iron clamps.

Castor and Pollux were the twin sons of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leda (they are the twins of Gemini).  The Temple was built in 495 BC in gratitude for victory at the Battle of Lake Regillus.

Head from the Colossus of Constantine (312-315 AD).  The head, arms, and legs were carved in white marble, while the rest of the body consisted of a brick core and wooden framework, possibly covered with gilded bronze.  THe seated, enthroned figure would have been about 40 ft high (head is out 8 ft tall).

Marcus Aurelius bronze statue (about 14 ft tall) erected in 175 AD.  It is the only fully surviving bronze statue of a pre-Cristian Roman emperor because medieval Christians thought it portrayed Constantine.  Other bronze statues were melted for reuse as material for coins or new statues.

Located in the portico of the Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.  It is thought to be part of a 1st century fountain.  Starting from the Middle Ages, it was believed that if one told a lie with one's hand in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be bitten off.

Butchers initially occupied the shops, but now occupied by jewelers, art dealers, and souvenirs sellers.  The bridge first appeared in a document of 996.  Destroyed by flood in 1117, it was reconstructed but swept away again in 1333.  Rebuilt in 1345.

Pisa Tower, Pisa
Prior to restoration, the tower leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees, now 3.99 degrees.  The top of the tower is displaced horizontally 12 ft 10 in from the center.  Groundbreaking was in 1173 and completion in 1372.
