Moving into new spaces we often realize what amenities our old house or apartment had that we couldn't take with us. In this case, her previous apartment had a wall of built in shelving for books. With a rather large collection and nowhere to put them, we settled on building a bookshelf in the recessed space next to what used to be a fireplace. This design was a balance between function, efficiency, and beauty. The sharp angles provide good contrast to the rounded entryways of the home, and the unit itself attracts attention without dominating the space.
