Textile Universe

-Backstrap weaving-

Recentely I just joined in the universe of textile and weaving, I went to a workshop of backstrap loom weave in Oaxaca.
The backstrap weaving is an acestral prehispanic tecnique that has many significants (symbolic, religious, social, etc.), for the prehispanic cultures this activity was related with women and fertility, the maya culture belived that goddess "Ixchel" (also goddess of fertility and the personification of the moon) gived to all women the knowledge of weave, so all women began to weave since very young age, these activity has an important position in the society at that time, all the textile has an economic meaning and took part of the religious events and ceremonies. The process of this art involve patience and creativity, also the traditional process began in the cotton recollect, yarn make, dying and warping. This magical way of weave is perfect for those who love travel like me, because you can do it everywhere and the equipment is very simple.

This is the beginning of my journey in this beautiful and ancestral universe.
