Spectra Journal publishes creative writing and visual art around the subject of anti-oppressive themes and queer experiences. The journal is run by volunteers and funded by Queer Concordia. The theme for the journal is inspired by the persistence, beauty, and social ideas of weeds.
Weeds and queer folk are both socially represented as things that do not belong. They have been physically and aggressively removed from spaces and have been labeled as "undesirable". The truth is that weeds will always emerge through the cracks, weeds are beautiful, healing, and important.
