HOTEL ROOMS

Documenting Our Spatial Memories
Audience Participation Installation, 2012

How do we remember places? How do we recall rooms?
The user is given a flat, foldable survey and is asked to recall all the details of a room in their memory that wasn’t their own room–the purpose being to make them remember spaces that were more transient in their lives, spaces where they didn’t keep their own familiar objects.

The resulting installation collects fragments of spatial memories from each person and regroups them into a hotel-esque formation. The final structure gives each impermanent space a housing of its own. The modules can form several different living/compartment configurations.

On the opposite side of this card, draw in any details you can recall of a room that is meaningful to you. Where was this place? What color do you associate with the room?

Lay it out like this. You can fold it up if it helps you draw, it's going to end up being a small box!
