Janis Joplin • Emotional Book

During the master, I assimilated new techniques, methods and processes related to the production of books and publications, as objects of communication; I also discovered a particular enthusiasm in learning various bookbinding techniques, used to realize academic or personal projects, and I developed an interest and inclination in knowing and understanding the area of artist's books and independent publications.

"Janis Joplin" is the final project that I realized during the first year of the Master Degree in Graphic Design and Editorial Projects. Designed and produced as an artist's book in single copy and unique object, this emotional graphic artifact aims to represent and present the strong, singular and artistic personality of Janis Joplin - the famous singer of the sixties - her way of thinking, living and expressing herself, representing it through the pages of a book, and creating a multi-sensorial experience for the reader through interactive pages, the use of text, explanations, different colors, materials and visual elements.

The book is made of four thematic books, that represent a side of the artist's personality, and a little exterior booklet with the biography of the singer. Each book is designed and produced depending on its content.

1° | The Child

This book is designed as a school notebook and aims to show, briefly, what has been Joplin's "school of life", with pictures of her childhood, her idols and the strong opinions that her schoolmates had about her.

2° | The Artist

This book aims to show the side of her personality that is known worldwide, the amazing singer with an astonishing strength and soul on the stage, her originality and extravagance in dressing and in approaching the public.

3° | The Woman behind the artist

The third book, simple and sober, aims to show her hidden side, her thoughts and inner self, the woman in everyday life off the stage and her attitude with rules and love.
