BACHELOR THESIS TOPIC: Surfaces for car bodies modelling

ABSTRACT
This bachelor thesis is focused on the basic principles of modeling and connecting freeform NURBS (non-uniform rational B-spline) surfaces suitable for application in automotive industry. The theoretical part contains both the necessary definitions of computer graphics and geometry (NURBS curves and surfaces, geometric and parametric continuity of freeform curves and surfaces) and an explanation of important terms used in the automotive industry (A-Class modeling, high quality surface, smooth connection between surfaces, static and dynamic connection quality control between surfaces). The rules for quality surface modeling developed in the automotive industry and engineering requirements for the final model are here listed, too. In the practical part these rules and engineering requirements are applied and 3D model of a car body in Autodesk Alias Automotive is created.

KEY WORDS
NURBS curve, NURBS surface, tangency, curvature, torsion, parametric continuity, geometric continuity, A-Class modeling (A-Class surface, B-Class surface, C-Class surface).
