My final university project considered the use of digital manipulation in the media, such as magazines and advertisements, and how these have affected young women and their views on beauty and body image, whilst also considering what they see as the ‘ideal’ body image - which may then lead them to wanting cosmetic surgery to perfect their ‘flaws’. I wanted to raise a degree of awareness and encourage women to not necessarily believe everything they see in the media. Photoshop is often used to alter body image and perfect what the media considers as ‘imperfections’. I created these parody ‘potion bottles’ as well as a medicine cabinet as a way of giving women their quick fix “ideal” body image.
Below is an insight to how my exhibition was displayed at the The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London. This display was also set up at the New Designers exhibition at the Business Design Centre, Islington.
