Private Home Project- Newton, MA
Architectural Design, Interior Design, Construction Administration
At our first meeting with the client in 2010, we came upwith some words/phrases that would describe their style. These phrases include,"Barefoot and Stilettos," "Old meets New meets Old,""Traditional with a Zing," "Comfortable and Welcoming,""NOT showy or ostentatious," "A Place for the Family to comeback to, a Family Home for generations to come," "The place forfriends to gather," "Simple but not simplistic,""Appreciate the details."
The finished house will tell whether we've succeeded inbringing these phrases to life. If we've done our job well, it will be hard toascertain whether the completed house was always here or not. This is theback-story to the birth of this "new-old" house.
It is important to understand that there are no goodprojects without good clients. We thankour client for making the thousands of decisions necessary to create a house ofthis scale. We thank them for letting usbe their guides along the way.
There are also no good projects without good builders. This project would not have been realized without the amazing work of StevenDoucette and his team of craftsmen and tradesmen. These photos are a tribute toall of the people who worked so hard to make this happen (including ourconsulting engineers). Some of their work is visible and will give dailypleasure, but some of their work is often forgotten, hidden behind walls andfloors. These photos show us the real story of building a house.
