The 1.8.3.8. Hotel Lobby and Bar

The 1.8.3.8.
Hotel Lobby and Bar
Located in the heart of Washington D.C., this project called for the re-design of a lobby and bar area on the ground floor of a bustling hotel. The driving force behind the final design came from the process of marrying  new and old world styles in this traditionally conservitive setting. The intersection at which classic and progressive selections converge becomes the backbone and substance of this environment. The use of timeless furniture, millwork, and recognizable patterns allowed for the introduction of the juxtaposed chartreause color and sleek ghosted accessories. The unique undulating ceiling teatment introduced an elemnt of surprise and added energy to both the indoor space as well as the outdoor seating areas due to its puncture of the surrounding curtain walls. Using the volume of the entry space also spoke to the more classic geographical architecture, while the addition of the encased, dropped ceilings, and banquets brought a modern intimacy to the design. Additionaly the name given to the hotel was cleverly based on the creation year of the chartreause color in 1838.
