Principles of Animation Exploration
Squash and Stretch
. animated objects will get flatter / longer to emphasize their speed, momentum, weight and mass
. this uses all forms of matter from a bouncy ball to a person

Arc
. it is the typical action that an object moves in, which is also a principle where an animation can be ensured to move realistically rather than move in a straight path in a robotic manner

Slow In and Slow Out
. this provides the understanding that when an action starts, the amount of frames vary to the middle of an action
. the faster the action, the less frames it has, and the slower the action, the more frames there are

Straight Ahead and Pose to Pose
. refers to the technique of planning the action in the scene
. straight ahead involves the process of drawing from the first frame onto the next consecutively until the action is finished
. pose to pose is a planned out interval in which extreme key framing is a part of; this gives the animator an easier visual to work with from start to end
Staging
. the use of effective placement of characters / objects on the set
. this helps direct the audience's attention to the intended character / object

Timing
. speed of an action and gives personality to an animation which is affected by the number of frames inserted

Exaggeration
. a wilder way to express an action or a reaction which makes the animation unrealistic but provides an interesting spice to it

Anticipation
. prepares the audience for what is about to happen in the animation, which can be assisted by a person or an object
Follow Through
. gives the impression that the animation follows the laws of physics
. is an overlapping action when an object moves / changes direction

Solid Drawing
. applies the basic principles of drawing the form, weight and solidity of the object; gives the object a realistic view due to the three dimensional illusion that the object displays

Appeal
. includes the character's / object's development as an animated figure which catches the attention of the audience

Secondary Action
. adds onto the main action and strengthens an support the main action/s' idea and purpose
