Flat Pack Design for Kids
A class exercise in flat pack design and user interaction
A class exercise in flat pack design and user interaction
This children's flat pack concept evolved from a class project in which we were instructed to create a design that could be manipulated by the child without adult help while only using a single 5'x2' plywood sheet.
The puzzle piece concept is a chair set of two that can be manipulated into multiple configurations. It was designed to be functional, space-saving, economical, and fun and engaging for a child. Utilizing the puzzle theme serves to not only be visually fun and recognizable for the child, but also acts as a way to communicate to the child that this furniture is meant to be taken apart and played with just like a real puzzle. The simple straight slot cuts used aids in the simplicity of the transformation from one configuration to the next.
