Manipulated photograph of a 3d printed model in a 1:3 scale (33% of its real size). The 3d printed model tested the feasibility of the design system and enabled the performance of a colour research with spray paint. The image was manipulated in Photoshop in the aim of creating a finished 3d visualization of the product in study.
Saeta Estudi was given the proposal of creating an everyday object using cork as the foundation material. For this project I went back to my roots, collected stories from my grandfather and discovered how cork was used in the past. It would be used as a container to successfully store and transport food from village to village - "tarro" and also as a tool for drinking water at the fountains - "cocho". The goal was to created an everyday object, considering all the different applications the material provided. Firstly, it is elastic and resilient which means that after compressing it always returns to the original shape - action of stacking and sealing. Secondly, it is insulating and impermeable which allows food conservation - set of different sizes of containers for different types of content. Thirdly, it is light, soft, floatable and durable - perfect conditions for outdoor uses and inspires the playfulness. Last but not least, it is a natural bio material, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. The conclusion was that this cork object should serve many functions as a plastic container but in a more sustainable way. The intention is that people interact with the object, play with it, and learn its charaterisctics by the touch and inventive use.

One of the main features of cork is its ability to compress. This inspired the creating of a stacking system.
