City Footprints: Discover the Suburbs

Discover the Suburbs

Want to get away from the city without having to go too far? Hop on the purple line up to Linden station to discover the best that the suburbs have to offer.
Mrs. D's Diner - Wilmette
Start your day by grabbing lunch at this local diner praised for its friendly staff and delicious homemade food. Some of the best dishes include their “World’s Best Pancakes,” hash browns, huevos rancheros, and turkey club. Located on the corner of 4th street and Linden, right across from the L station. They do not accept credit cards, so bring cash.
Baha'i Temple
Just a short walk east of Linden station you will find one of the seven Baha’i Temples in the world. This circular structure is spectacular to look at and surrounded by beautiful gardens and fountains. Inside you can learn about the Baha’i faith and participate in prayer services. Admission is free.
Gilson Park and Beach
Walk across the street from the temple to find Gilson Park and Gilson Beach. There are small sand dunes located on the beach. Admission to the beach is $8.50 for non-residents, but after 6:00pm it goes down to $3.00. If you do not feel like spending any money you can still enjoy the park.
