The SF (Spin & Fold) Lamp Series, an ICFF Studio award winning collection, is both an ho pays homage to the art of hand spinning metal, while adding new complexity to the technique.
Unlike most spun metal objects, SF lamps are not quite radially symmetrical. After the lampshade is spun, a cutting tool is used to punch a “key hole” in it. The shade is then folded, and secured into its new form.
The result is a lampshade that shifts from typically symmetrical to subtly organic, depending on the vantage point.
