Design Week RI is a celebration of the local design community in Rhode Island. There are numerous events throughout the state during Design Week that showcase and draw attention to the design talent in Rhode Island.
Through brainstorming and mindmapping I arrived at the concept of highlight for this event. I used screenprinting techniques to apply broad highlighted strokes throughout the different pieces of the identity, which work to reinforce typographic hierarchy.
The typeface chosen for this identity is Verlag, a geometric sans serif, for its connection to the arts. Verlag was originally designed for the Guggenheim Museum based on the iconic Art Deco lettering on the museum’s façade. It is also characterized by its crisp, angled terminals, which resemble the chisel tip of a highlighter pen.
