During a three week exploration of Barcelona, Spain, I documented visual elements that stood out as wildly characteristic moments of the city. After compiling and categorizing my drawings, I narrowed in on both a form and function true to the people of historically rich, Barcelona.

I then began modeling and designing a Bar and Spirits table, with the limitation that I will have just one sheet of 4'x8' plywood, and only 7 days to construct it.
Some compiled drawings.
In order to suspend the wine glasses a safe distance from the ground, and to ensure they will be at a comfortable height for the user to reach, I extended the legs of the Bar. With this, I resolved the final design:
Orthographic 1:1 Drawing
I next built paper models in order to confirm that the size proportions remain pleasing once built in 3D.
Given my happiness with the physical model, next is to design it in CAD.
Sketchup 3-D Model to calculate cuts from one sheet of 4'x8' Plywood
The first step in my process is to cut plywood to size on the table saw, glue on self-made walnut edge banding (to hide the rough visible edges of plywood), and then to add lamellos (biscuits), to simultaneously strengthen and align all joints for gluing.
After fabricating a custom clamping jig to avoid damaging the sharp angles of the plywood edges while clamping, I began the final glue-up.
While the body was gluing, I began to cut to size and polish the steel pipes that sleeve all of the mechanical joints of the Bar.
I then joined the wood and plate steel components of the base with a tongue & groove press-fit connection.
I then finished all wooden surfaces with three coats of Shellac, followed by two coats of General Finishes SEAL-A-CELL, and a final layer of ARM-R-SEAL.
The finished project, the Barcelona Bar!
