This project is for my Frame brief. The brief was very broad as you were allowed to choose your own topic as long as it related to the idea of a 'frame'. This project became quite personal to me as this work is dedicated to my grandfather, whom I’ve never met because he passed away before I was born. These five frames reflect the essence of my grandfather through the memories of my family, especially my mum and my grandma.

Each frame showcases a distinct trait or a habit that was very significant in my mum/grandma’s memory. I made these frames to create my grandfather out of the memories of my mum and grandma, to know him and to put emphasis on how a person can live on even after their passing through the memories of their loved ones.

This work helped me to refine my prototyping skills as A LOT of prototyping was done for this project - experimenting with a lot of materials, from paper to lighting and structure. For me, this project was more about the process than the final outcome as I learnt a lot about my family as well as new making skills.

A lot of prototyping was done for this project, as I was not quite sure how to present the emotions that I was trying to convey.
Eventually I end up creating these scenes within a clean white frame, to resemble that of a family photo frame, but I kept the frame white because it represents death in my culture.
When the frame was hung up on the wall, nothing was visible. However when the frame was held up near a light source, there was a hidden message within the frame. This was to represent my relationship with my grandfather: although I've never seen what he looks like, he is still present in the memories of my family.
