Spoke is my dissertation at the Games Design BA course at Brunel University.

It consists of two parts: the Spoke Interface Rig (SIR) that can be placed under any wheelchair to convert it into a game controller, and a simple platforming game to be used for demonstrative purposes.
Above you see the functional first prototype. It uses two mice strapped to the wheels, oriented to input X and Y acceleration respectively.

Playtesting has proven even rather wonky controls based on this mode of movement to be fun, unexpected and challenging. If farther developed they could find success in controlling vehicles based on tank and flight controls, and more

I propose that especially in cooperative play, the concept might find application in certain events, or medical and physical rehabilitation centres. My hope is that it could provide a bridge for understanding and connection by putting players in wheelbound shoes, showcasing the challenges of wheelchair navigation in an engaging way, supported by game design.
I will fill this page with more content as I resume work on the project.
