Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park is a business with a static identity for which a flexible mark redesign would be appropriate. I chose to use a modular approach to create a flexible identity. The theater is one of the original theaters in Cincinnati with a very traditional thrust stage setup in which the audience sits on three sides of the stage. The Playhouse has two different stages, one made of an organic semi-circle and the other a more rigid straight-sided stage. These stage setups, along with the corresponding audience seating went in to making the new flexible, modular mark. The gap between the “stage” and the “audience” makes a negative space that creates the second P for Playhouse in the Park.
