'Let's respect ourselves, because we're worth it'

«Шануймося, бо ми того варті!» is an old ukrainian cossack saying, that could be translated as 'Let's respect ourselves because we're worth it'. I made it for Slava Balbek, ukrainian architect and industrial designer, one of the most inspiring creatives in my neighbourhood.

The desision was to use Skoropys writing style for words and ukrainian baroque elements for arrangement.

Firstly I didn't like Black version, and desided to make another, White one.
Work in progress
Vita Lopuchina, one of VikaVita Calligraphy Sisters duo, reviewed it and returned with presious comments. Thank you girls for your deep knowlege on letters, patience, friendship and inspiration!
Usually I make much more elements that are used in final version
It was really big composition. Almost as big as my child at that time.
It's easy to notice, that there are lots of dust in 'raw' composition. The more we work on it, the more dust fall. Quick 'sculpting stage' saves us lots of time when it comes to retoushing. But anyway, retoushing can take 50% of total project's time. Or more.
Modelling clay used: 'Luch'
Camera: Nikon D300, flashlight Nikon Speedlight SB-900
Time of creation:
     sculpting ~ 15 hours
     photography — 3 hours
     retoushing ~ 30 hours
Idea, sculpting, photo, retoushing: Olga Protasova
Consultant on historical letterforms: Vitalina Lopuchina
Client: Slava Balbek
