Junior Studio: Deferred Demands

Deferred Demands is the Junior Studio "Mini Collection". This course allows students to us draping and pattern making to create two completed looks based off an original concept.
For my concept, I look towards the Harlem Renaissance for inspiration. As a time filled with great creativity in the Black community I was enthralled with the art, music, and literature of the era, especially the works of Langston Hughes. The pride and growth of African American set the tone for my designs
The first look I completed was a crossover top coupled with an asymmetrical skirt. I enjoyed the metallic thread within the knit patterns and felt it was fitting for the era.
The second completed look was a "swing top" inspired by the dance style during the era that was paired with khaki Capri shorts. The final fabric of the shirt was a plum lavender crepe. The shorts also incorporated a knit tricot in the waistband on pockets.
