O Bird, small bird,
They will try to break your shell,
your walls, your small world,
and make you hatch

With their sharp dagger,
pointy nails, saw-tooth edge,
they will gnaw a hole through your shell

But you are a bird
when you see the dim light
through the thin crack you created

You are a bird
when you split the shell in half
with your small, fragile beak

You are a bird
when you leave your footprint
next to the broken shell
but no one else’s.
