Classroom Project- Design of a shelter
The Objective was to design a simple, portable, low-cost shelter for laborers working on site in Rajasthan, India.

a. They walk 4 – 5 km everyday from their village to the jobsite.
b. They carry their tools and children with them.
c. Theterrain at thejob site is rough , rocky , with a lot of dry patches and sparse vegetation.
d. Itgets specially hot in the afternoonswith temperatures hovering between 32ºC– 48ºC.
It is here that a design opportunity was seen andtherefore , the need to design a portable, collapsible shelter for them wasaddressed.

Concept Trials
Final ConceptThe inspiration for this concept came from the slide-lock mechanism usedto lock the tables in place in a railway coach, and a blind man's walking stick.
