Hawker Hurricane Mk1 'Battle of Britain'

This commission build represents the aircraft flown by Rhodesian born fighter pilot, Squadron Leader Ceasar Hull DFC. The markings are his aircraft of 43Sqn 'Fighting Cocks' Hurricane V6641, FT-A, as of September 1940.  Hull was killed in action on 7th September after taking part in an attack on a large number of Luftwaffe bombers over Folkstone. He ordered part of his squadron to attack the escorting fighters while he led his flight into the attack on the bombers.
During the melee, Hull was reported to have shot down two Dornier 17's during the attack and after running out of ammunition went to the aid of his wingman Flt/Lt R C Reynell who was being heavily attacked as the battle progressed over the London Docks. It was a hopeless situation with both pilots at the mercy of the German fighters, and it ended with two exceptional men being shot down and killed. Ceasar Hull was found dead from a bullet wound beside his aircraft in the grounds of a boy's school in Purley, Kent. He is buried at St. Andrews churchyard in Tangmere alongside his fellow fighter pilots.
