This fully fashioned dress was made on a knitting machine, by knitting large textural swatches hanging and attaching them to the rest of the dress on the machine, beginning with the basic black bodice. Most of the textural swatches were knit using the hold technique, plating and shaping, there is some use of punch cards as well.
I tried to continuously switch yarns and and knitting techniques to create movement through the dress. Considering the amount of freedom that a knitting machine affords you, and I wanted to improvisationally build up a garment from just a black traditional tank top shape.
