The Virtual Disconnect

The Virtual Disconnect is an experiential installation which physically manifests the mechanisms of the Internet to illustrate how our accessing of online information contributes to the loss of our deep thinking.

Although our digital lifestyles have improved our multi-tasking abilities, we also struggle to focus when prolonged attention is needed. As we devote more time to navigating the Internet rather than honing our deep thinking skills of creativity and introspection, we gradually lose these techniques of forming macro concepts of thinking. Ultimately, our cognitive capabilities might remain superficial and scattered, which would affect us and generations to come.

What then shall we make of knowledge in our Internet-driven day and age?
