Keluar Baris—1st Commando Battalion Yearbook

Keluar Baris” is the Malay command for fall out or exit. During my days in National Service these two words were always what we looked forward to hearing so that we could end the day & bookout from camp. The stamp graphic on the cover is the exact one we used to be granted a valid ‘off-pass’ to leave the camp temporarily for specific reasons (i.e. medical appointments).

The title & the stamp graphic gives us the feeling of liberation from our full-time National Service duties as we transit to NSmen & civilian life. All our memories from the days in the Commando Formation are ‘sealed’ in a ziplock bag reminiscent of the packaging of field equipment, individually labelled with our military initials and presented on our Operationally Ready Date.
