Description
This piece was designed for Structures and Systems, and was completed during Final Studio. The project demonstrates the methods of Gestalt using a simple item that comes in a pack of at least 50. I chose the eye screw, and my piece is a poster for a traveling exhibit of photographs by Edward Burtynsky. Burtynsky photographs industrial sites in beautiful ways to draw attention to the devastation mankind is leaving behind, and the sharp and sinister edges of the screw capture this mood. The typeface is Avenir, which was chosen to complement the roundness of the eyes of the screw, and juxtapose the sharpness of the thread. The paper is silver to represent the unnatural subject matter.
