Billy Blatty's profile

NORD's Rare Disease Day Observed

An entrepreneur and restaurant owner, Billy Blatty recently opened several new restaurants, including Belle's Diner, Lucky Foo's, and Barcadia Baton Rouge. In addition, as a committed philanthropist, Billy Blatty raises money annually for several non-profit groups, including the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD).

Founded to serve as a unifying force for the more than 30 million people in America with a rare disease, NORD seeks to raise awareness about rare disorders and encourage networking through its Rare Action Network. As part of its efforts to attract public attention, the organization celebrates Rare Disease Day each year.

Originally established in Europe in 2008, Rare Disease Day owes its existence to EURORDIS. Now people and organizations in more than 65 countries join together in observation of the day. The 2017 Rare Disease Day will be on February 28. More information about how NORD plans to commemorate the day is available at rarediseases.org. The organization also offers a link to the official website for the U.S. observation of Rare Disease Day and includes an announcement of each year's global theme.
