Flat Terrariums
2013. Unnatural nature scenes made entirely out of real dried leaves and plants. Laser cut and engraved leaf pebbles and characters, each captured in a unique scene. Pressed under etched acrylic.
I am enamored by terrariums - and plants in general - but often the beautiful photos online are not particularly botanically correct. A bog plant and a cactus do not want to live together in a sealed jar. But in the world of flat terrariums, the plants are far more obedient.
Leaves are collected and pressed, preserving them in various states of decay for a fascinating range of colors and textures.
Drawings are a collaboration with my reluctant brother Matthew, who still maintains the same charming illustration style as when he was 4.
