Lungs
We were considering bodily protections inside and out—ribs sheltering organs and parachutes flaring open to encompass the body it is trying to save. Protections are constructed or grown around what they are meant to protect, their form shaped by their purpose. In a reversal of the usual wood support that the more malleable sculpture is then built around, we used the fabric for the structure and draped the wood around and through it.
Camilla came to this project with months of work in fabric, while I came with a knowledge of working with wood and an interest in letting my project grow beyond itself. The collaboration began with the words, "You delve into my work and I'll delve into yours."
