With the growing interests in environment awareness, bamboo has cropped as a green alternative to other woody raw materials. From soft bath towels to sturdy buildings and homes, bamboo is used for products in nearly every industry.
This project aims to create awareness about the indegeous crafts and traditional knowledge systems of bamboo production.
The project aimed to engage with varied art and craft forms used by artisans in Barpeta district of Assam. With a contemporay vision it aims to integrate design industry and their skill-set in order to bring out innovative directions in future.
The project started with mapping the craft of a region called Barpeta, Assam with the help of the NGO, Raypur Jeewan Jyothi Rural Development Society.
Vision Statement- To change the perception of Indian bamboo products.
Design Direction- To play with bamboo and try to develop new tangibility and visual language in order to change the perception of the material. However, I believe that impressions can only be transfered and enhanced only if a person sees a stark a difference between what has been available in the market for ages and what advancement is offered now.
