Embracingthe Commedia del Arte approach, everything in the theater is symbolicallytheatrical; drops are drops, platforms are platforms, and props are found asthey are needed. This enables the play to be modern, as if a troupe pulled intotown for the day to put it on. The flavor of Venice flows through the scenery,but we never forget that we are in a theater and the focus is on what theactors can do with it.
