This estate garden fulfills the Owner’s goal of creating a modern interpretation of a classical Persian garden. The design process included a rigorous investigation of the history, elements and workings of Persian gardens, in order to identify their central essence. This understanding translated into modern transformations of space and objects that, while reminiscent of traditional Persian gardens, are complementary to modern life in Los Angeles. All of this was done while negotiating extensive public requirements, ranging from set-backs, to neighborhood association design requirements, to City standards, with the goal of designing a landscape that appeals to the Owner’s sophisticated sculptural sensibilities.
